October 2026 Minutes

GARNAVILLO PUBLIC LIBRARY                                  LIBRARY BOARD MEETING

Thursday – October 22, 2026     6:30 PM

ROLL CALL: Present- Lisa Robinson, Matt Meier, Cathy McLane, Sharon Schmelzer, Lu Kahle, Tiffani Brandt and June Wolter

Citizen Comments: none

SECRETARY REPORT:  Motion to approve September minutes was made by Matt and 2nd by Lu. Motion was unanimously approved.

CITY CLERK BUDGET REPORT: Read and reviewed

BILLS – REVENUES – TIME CARDS TO SUBMIT TO CITY: End of pay period is Tuesday, October 27.

 LIBRARIAN REPORT: See Attachment

The laminator has been purchased and bill is included in the October bills.

OLD BUSINESS:

1.      Motion Light for side door update- Chad installed the outside motion light and it is working.

NEW BUSINESS:

1.      Application signed by parent age policy- A motion by Matt and 2nd by Sharon to change the age on the Circulation/Lending Policy from 14 to 18 years old. Motion was unanimously approved.

2.      Halloween parades are scheduled for Friday, October 30 in Garnavillo. Daycare Parade at 10 AM with approximate 30+ children. Clayton Ridge School parade will start at 2:00 PM with 300+ children. The library will be handing out treats.

3.      Tiffani on vacation in January. Friday, January 8 thru Saturday January 16th 2027.  Cindy and NaDyne will cover all hours in Tiffani’s absence.

4.      Staff will attend an Active Shooter Training on November 18th at Murphy Helwig Public Library in Monona. Option to have presenter come to our library for a building specific training if we want.

OTHER BUSINESS: 

1.Thanksgiving Hours: According to the policy book the library will close early on Wednesday, November 25 at 12:00 PM. The library will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. The library will re-open on Friday with regular hours 10 AM – 4 PM.

2026 Christmas Hours: According to the policy book the library will close early on Christmas Eve at Noon and be closed on Friday, Christmas Day and Saturday, December 26.  The Library reopens on Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Library will for close early on New Years Eve at Noon and will be closed Friday on New Years Day 2027.

2.       Fraud Fighter Program-set for Friday, November 13 through the RSVP program. The program will start at 2:00 pm in the Garnavillo Library.

3.       Lu led a discussion on ideas for more adult programs at the library

Adjourn: With no other business a motion by Lisa and 2nd by Matt was made to adjourn. Motion was unanimously approved. Meeting adjourned at 7:15pm.

NEXT MEETING:   No board meeting scheduled for November.
