THE BOOKMARK

News from the Garnavillo Public Library

New Reads

Have you watched the Grantchester series on PBS?  This program is based on books written by James Runcie and the three books are now available for your reading pleasure.  The main character is an Anglican vicar with a curious nature and the ability to discover the truth.  The titles are Sidney Chambers and The Shadow of Death, Sidney Chambers and The Perils of the Night and Sidney Chambers and the Problem of Evil.  Each book contains a collection of interlocking short stories.

Holy Cow by David Duchovny is a humorous tale of Elsie, an American cow, who learns the truth about her fate, and along with Shalom, a cranky Torah-reading pig, and Tom, a suave turkey who cannot fly but can work a cell phone with his beak, steal passports and head to the airport in search of a better and safer word.

My Sunshine Away by M. O. Walsh is set in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where fifteen year old Lindy Simpson experiences a horrible crime late one summer evening near her home, and it becomes clear that this safe suburban neighborhood has a dark side.

Dates to Remember

This week is National Library Week and to celebrate the library will have a family game night on Wednesday, the 15th at 6:30 PM and a program on container vegetable gardening on the 16th at 7:00 PM.  Throughout the week when anyone comes in they are eligible to put their name in for a drawing.  The winning names will be drawn on April 18th just before the library closes.  Join the library staff and help celebrate this annual nationwide event.  The library is open Tuesday 10 to 4, Wednesday 10 to 8, Thursday 3 to 8 and Saturday 10 to 2.
